For Actors & Storytellers

Every year Sylvan Lake Theatre (SLT) puts out a call for Trail actors and storytellers. Auditions will be held in mid-July. Even if you are known to the company, there are often new Trail directors who may not be familiar with your work.

Time Commitment:

Theatre Trail 2025 runs Sept 6, 7, 13, 14.  Plan to be available from noon- 5 p.m. on each of those days though the average call is only 3 hours per afternoon.

For Actors: Theatre Trail rehearsals begin in August, usually mid-August, and are twice a week in Sylvan Lake for approximately 15 hours in total, accommodating the schedule of the team and the demands of the play.

For Storytellers: There will be an initial meeting in late July or early August to discuss the story material to be developed. The writing and working on delivery (performance) processes will overlap and a schedule developed that involves individual support as well as group working sessions. Storytelling is very much a group sport!

Compensation:

This is a volunteer experience with an honorarium + perks (A Launch party invitation, your headshot and bio on Theatre Trail marketing materials and at the lobby display)

Auditioning:

An audition is not a finished product, it shows your potential. Plan to have fun and know that if you are cast the director and Trail team will all have weeks to get ready.

If interested in being cast in the Theatre Trail please email a headshot and resume to: SylvanLakeTheatre@gmail.com at any time. You will be notified about auditions dates/times.

Once the casting requirements are known (early July) the character information will be posted on this web page, and an audition notice will be posted via Social Media. Those who have emailed us their intent to audition will be contacted directly.

Casting Actors:

Please present a fully memorized, one-minute monologue (not a soliloquy) that is from a play and not a screenplay.  Ideally, the character you are playing is speaking to another character, with equal stakes. After you have presented your monologue, the director(s) may want to work with you on the monologue and/or have you read a scene from one of the plays.

At the Acting Audition:

If interested in being a storyteller for the Theatre Trail please email your intention and include any writing, storytelling and/or performance experience you have to SylvanLakeTheatre@gmail.com at any time. You will be notified about auditions dates/times and asked to sign up. In 2025 Trail auditions will be held mid-July.

Casting Storytellers:

Please present a 1-2 minute story that you have created. It does not need to be memorized but it must not be read. Both your writing and delivery skills matter as a storyteller. After you have presented your story, a director may want to work with you on any aspect of the story or presentation plus will answer any questions you may have.
